The SANA Tom Arnold bursary fund – Celebrating 25 Years

The SANA Tom Arnold Bursary fund celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. The fund was started in 1985 at a SANA Convention where Tom Arnold, whose retail nursery in Bedfordview was well known at the time especially for dwarf Acers, donated money to create a fund to help future Horticulturalists.

The Bursary Fund is administered by SANA on behalf of the trustees. The SANA Bursary committee is made up of four elected SANA members and the bursary administrator. The current committee consists of Keith Kirsten (chairman), Wayne Stewart, Richard Gibb and Rick Smit. Wendy Appel is the Bursary Administrator.

The Trustees plan to increase the fund substantially over the next few years to ensure that we can help as many students as possible. The committee plan various fundraising activities for 2010, we urge all our members to support these activities were they can and to consider donations where possible.

Bursary Fundraiser hosted by Keith Kirsten

On 25th March 2009 Keith Kirsten hosted a magnificent black tie affair, in a shed, superbly transformed, at his home on the banks of the Crocodile River. The evening  was in honour of Charlie Dimmock, the BBC Groundforce star with Mara Louw as the surprise celebrity guest. It was a surperb evening enjoyed by the "Green Industry". The lucky draw to Thornybush was won by Ryan & Lindy Goodwin, who immediately gave it back to auction for the SANA Bursary Fund.

Their generosity was instantly acknowledged by the owner of Thornybush and were given another weekend. A total of R20 000.00 was raised for the SANA Bursary Fund. Thanks to Keith & his team for an amazing evening , your enthusiasm and generosity is truly special!
